Recommended Age:

Lower Elementary

Theme

God wants us to forgive others.

Object

Bible; one lemon slice in a Dixie cup per child; one lemon slice sprinkled with sugar in a Dixie cup per child; plastic spoons; hand wipes

Scripture

Genesis 45:1-15

Give each child a cup with lemon pieces.

Today we learn about Joseph! Joseph had mean brothers. His brothers were not nice to him. But Joseph chose to forgive them. Forgive means to not be mad anymore.

God wants us to forgive too! When someone is mean to us, we can choose to forgive.

Let's taste this lemon! Take a bite. Yucky! That's sour! When we don't forgive, we feel yucky inside like this sour lemon.

Now let's try this sweet lemon with sugar! Take a bite. Yummy! That's sweet! When we forgive, we feel happy and sweet inside!

The sour lemon is like being mad. The sweet lemon is like forgiving! Which one tastes better? The sweet one!

Joseph forgave his brothers. God forgives us when we say sorry. God wants us to forgive others too!

When someone takes your toy, you can forgive. When someone pushes you, you can forgive. When someone says mean words, you can forgive.

Forgiving makes our hearts happy! Forgiving makes us feel sweet inside like the yummy lemon!

Let's pray: God, thank You for loving us. Help us forgive like Joseph did. Help us be sweet, not sour. Amen.
