Theme
We sometimes get so busy that we leave Jesus behind.
Object
None needed. For effect, you might have someone make the "announcement" about the lost child over the church's sound system.
Scripture
When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you." "Why were you searching for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?" Luke 2:48-49 (NIV)
Have you ever been lost? Maybe in a big store? It feels scary! But Mommy and Daddy always find you, right?

Preschool object lessons are designed for 2-4 year olds. They provide a simplified version with shorter sentences, more repetition, basic vocabulary, and extra fun examples to engage littles.Today we learn about Jesus when he was a little boy. Jesus got lost too! But Jesus wasn't scared.
Jesus had a Mommy named Mary and a Daddy named Joseph. They loved Jesus very much. Every year, they went to a special place called the Temple. The Temple is God's house!
One day, when Jesus was twelve years old - that's much bigger than you! - his family went to the Temple. After they visited, Mommy Mary and Daddy Joseph started walking home. But where was Jesus? Jesus stayed at the Temple!
At first, Mommy and Daddy didn't know Jesus was missing. They thought he was walking with their friends. But when it got dark, they looked for Jesus. "Where is Jesus?" they asked. They looked and looked, but no Jesus!
Mommy Mary and Daddy Joseph were very worried. They went back to look for Jesus. They looked for three whole days! That's a long time - one day, two days, three days!
Where do you think they found Jesus? They found him in God's house - the Temple! Jesus was sitting with the grown-ups who knew lots about God. Jesus was asking questions and listening. The grown-ups were amazed! "This little boy is so smart!" they said.
When Mommy Mary saw Jesus, she said, "Jesus! We were so worried! We looked everywhere for you!"
Jesus said, "I was in my Father's house. I was learning about God!"
Sometimes we forget about Jesus too. But Jesus is always there waiting for us! When we pray, when we sing songs about Jesus, when we come to church - that's when we remember Jesus!
Let's pray: Dear God, thank you for Jesus! Help us remember Jesus every day. We love you! Amen.
