Theme

God sends his Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost

A portable electric fan with some bright red streamers tied to the guard.

Scripture

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Acts 2:1-4 (NIV)

Look at this fan! *Turn on fan* The fan blows air. We can't see air, but we know it's there! How do we know?

Look! *Point to streamers* The red ribbons are moving! The air makes them dance! We can SEE the ribbons move!

Put your hand up! *Hold hand near fan* Do you feel that? The air touches your hand! We can FEEL the air!

Listen! *Cup ear* Do you hear that whoosh sound? We can HEAR the air blowing!

We can't see air, but we know it's there because we can see, feel, and hear it!

Today we learn about God's Holy Spirit! The Holy Spirit is like the air from our fan. We can't see the Holy Spirit, but we know He's here!

Long ago, Jesus' friends were sitting together. Then something amazing happened! God sent His Holy Spirit to help them!

How did they know the Holy Spirit came? They heard a big WHOOSH sound! Like wind! *Make whoosh sounds* They could HEAR the Holy Spirit!

Then they saw something that looked like fire on their heads! But it didn't hurt! They could SEE something special happening!

The Holy Spirit gave them special power! They could talk in new words to tell everyone about Jesus! They could FEEL the Holy Spirit's power!

The Holy Spirit is with us too! We can't see Him, but He helps us every day! He teaches us about Jesus!

Let's pray! Dear God, thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to help us! Help us listen to Him every day! Amen!
