Do you like to play? (Show simple toys or balls.) Playing is fun! Let's clap our hands! (Clap together.)
Sometimes when we play, we pick who plays with us. We might pick the big kids first. We might pick the fast kids first. But God picks different! God picks with His heart!
One time, God wanted to pick a new king. A king wears a crown! (Put hands on head like a crown.) God told Samuel, "Go find the new king!" So Samuel walked and walked. (March in place.) Walk, walk, walk!
Samuel went to see Jesse. Jesse had many big boys - his sons! One, two, three, four, five, six, seven! (Count on fingers.) Seven big, strong boys! (Make muscles.)
God said, "No, no, no, no, no, no, no!" That's seven no's! None of these big boys were the king God wanted.
Samuel asked, "Are there more boys?" Jesse said, "Yes! Little David is outside with the sheep!" The sheep say, "Baa, baa!" (Make sheep sounds together.)
When little David came inside, God said, "YES! This one! David is my king!" (Put hands on head like crown.) David wasn't the biggest. David wasn't the tallest. But God loved David's heart!
God doesn't pick us because we're big. God doesn't pick us because we're strong. God picks us because He loves our hearts! God loves YOU! (Point to each child.)
Dear God, thank You for loving our hearts. Thank You for loving us just how we are. Amen!
