Activities + Resources
Let's play a fun game! Put your hand out like this. Now make a fist and hit your hand. Say "Rock, Paper, Scissors, go!" Show me a rock! Make your hand into a fist like this. Good job!
Now show me paper! Make your hand flat like this. Great! Now show me scissors! Put two fingers out like this. You're doing so good!
Let's play together! Ready? Rock, Paper, Scissors, go! I made a rock. What did you make? Let's play again! Rock, Paper, Scissors, go!
Look what I have! I have a real rock. Touch it - it's hard! I have real paper. Feel it - it's soft! I have real scissors. Don't touch - they're sharp! Mommy and Daddy use these.
If you want to draw a picture, would you use a rock? No! You use paper! If you want to cut paper, would you use a rock? No! You use scissors! But what if you're really, really thirsty and want water? Would a rock help? That sounds silly, doesn't it?
But guess what? In our Bible story today, a rock DID give water! Isn't that amazing?
When you're thirsty, what do you want? Water! When you don't have water, you feel yucky. Your mouth gets dry. You need water every day!
Long, long ago, God's people were walking in a hot, sandy desert. They got very, very thirsty. "We need water!" they said. "We're so thirsty!"
Moses was their leader. Moses loved God. When the people needed help, Moses talked to God. "God, your people are thirsty. Please help us!"
God said, "Moses, take your stick and hit that big rock." So Moses took his stick and - BAM! - hit the rock. And guess what happened? Water came out! Lots and lots of water! Splash, splash, splash!
All the people drank the water. All the animals drank too. Everyone was happy! God made water come from a rock!
When we need help, we can talk to God too. God loves us. God can do amazing things - even make water come from a rock!
Dear God, thank you for taking care of us. When we need help, we can talk to you. You love us so much. Amen.
