Scripture

Matthew 21:1-11

Let's wave our flags! Wave, wave, wave! (Give each child a flag or shaker.)

Today we're going to pretend! A very special King is coming to visit us. His name is Jesus! When I say "Here comes King Jesus!" you wave your flags and say "Yay Jesus!"

Look! Here comes King Jesus! (Pause for kids to wave and shout.) Wave your flags! Say "Yay Jesus!" Good job!

King Jesus is riding on a little donkey. Clip-clop, clip-clop! The donkey goes clip-clop down the road. Can you make donkey sounds? Hee-haw! Hee-haw!

The people are so happy to see King Jesus! They do special things:

  • They wave tree branches! Wave, wave, wave! (Pause for kids to wave flags.)

  • They shout "Hooray for Jesus!" Can you say "Hooray for Jesus!" (Pause for kids to respond.)

  • They are so happy! Clap your hands! (Pause for clapping.)

King Jesus loves the children. He smiles and waves at all the boys and girls. Wave back at Jesus! Say "Hi Jesus!" (Pause for waving.)

This special day is called Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday is when we remember King Jesus coming to visit. We are happy! Jesus loves us so much!

Let's all wave our flags one more time for King Jesus! Wave, wave, wave! Say "We love you, Jesus!"

Dear Jesus, we are happy you came to visit! We love you! We wave our flags for you! Amen.
