Scripture

But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD. Jeremiah 1:7-8 (NIV)

Do you know what "I can't" means? Sometimes we say "I can't do it!" when something is hard. Maybe you say it when mommy asks you to put on your shoes. Or when daddy asks you to clean up your toys. "I can't do it!"

There was a boy named Jacob. Jacob was learning numbers at school. Some numbers were easy! One, two, three - that was fun! But big numbers were hard. Jacob looked at his paper and said, "I can't do it!" His teacher came over. She said, "Let me help you, Jacob." She showed him how to do it. Then Jacob could do it! He wasn't alone anymore.

In the Bible, there was a man named Jeremiah. God talked to Jeremiah! God said, "Jeremiah, I want you to tell people about me." But Jeremiah said, "I can't! I'm too little!" Do you ever feel too little? God said, "Don't say 'I can't!' I will help you. I will give you words to say." Then God touched Jeremiah's mouth. Now Jeremiah could talk to people about God!

God loves you too! Sometimes God asks us to do things. Maybe help mommy. Maybe be kind to friends. Maybe sing songs about Jesus. When something feels hard, remember Jeremiah! God will help you. You don't have to say "I can't!" God says "I will help you!"

Let's pray! Dear God, when things are hard, help us remember you are with us. Help us be brave like Jeremiah. Thank you for loving us. Amen.
