A Fool and His Money (Preschool Adaptation)
Recommended Age:
Lower Elementary
Tema
Jesus warned us to beware of selfishness and greed.
Objetos
Three shoe boxes or paper bags numbered 1, 2, and 3. You will also need a small treat and a "nice" prize. Box #2 will contain the prize. The prize need not be expensive, but should be something a child would be pleased to have -- such as a toy or a treat of some kind. Choose a child ahead of time to assist you and explain to the child how the game will be played and instruct the child to always be willing to trade what he has for the chance to win the prize. Assure the child that he will receive a reward for being your helper.
Escritura
Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." Luke 12:15 (NIV)

Do you like games? Let's play a fun game! I have boxes. Box 1, box 2, box 3! Who wants to play?
Look! I have a yummy snack for someone special. Who helped mommy or daddy today? You did? Great job! Here's your snack! (Give treat to child.) Now, do you want to keep your snack? Or do you want what's in this box? You want the box? Okay!
Let's open box 3 first. Oh look! It's just a silly toy! Not the good prize. Your box might have the good prize! Do you want to keep your box? Or trade for this other box? You want to trade? Okay!
Let's see what was in your first box. Oh! Just another silly toy! Now let's see your new box. WOW! You got the best prize! Good job!
That was fun! Sometimes people want more and more things. More toys, more candy, more everything! But Jesus says that's not good. Jesus wants us to be happy with what we have.
Jesus told a story about a man who had lots and lots of food. But he wanted MORE food! He built bigger and bigger houses for his food. Jesus said that wasn't good. The man forgot to share. He forgot to be thankful.
Jesus wants us to be happy with our toys. Happy with our food. Happy with our family. God gives us everything we need! We don't need more and more things to be happy.
Let's pray: Dear God, thank you for our toys and food and family. Help us be happy with what we have. Help us share with others. Amen.
