Today we're learning about two brothers named Esau and Jacob! They were twins - that means they were born on the same day!
Esau was born first. Jacob was born second, holding onto Esau's foot! Can you hold onto someone's foot? That's silly!
When you're born first in Bible times, you get special things called a "birthright." That means you get your family's house, toys, and animals when you grow up. Esau got lots and lots of good things because he was born first!
Let's think about YOUR special things! What's your name? Your mommy and daddy gave you that special name! Can you say your name? Your name is very special - it belongs just to you!
What toys do you have at home? What about your bed? Your family? These are all special things that belong to you!
One day, Esau came home from playing outside. His tummy was making growling sounds - GRRROWWWL! He was SO hungry! Can you make hungry sounds with your tummy?
Jacob was cooking yummy soup. It smelled SO good! Mmmmm! Can you smell something yummy?
Jacob said, "I'll give you this soup if you give me all your special things - your birthright!"
Esau was so hungry he said, "YES! I want that soup RIGHT NOW!" And he gave away ALL his special things for just one bowl of soup! That's like giving away all your toys for one cookie!
Would you give away all your toys for one cookie? No way! That would be silly!
Esau made a not-so-good choice. Let's ask God to help us make good choices!
Dear God, help us make good choices every day. Help us think before we decide. Thank you for loving us! Amen.
