A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Matthew 21:8 (NIV)
Do you like to pretend you're a superhero? I do! Superman wears a cape. Batman wears a cape too. A cape is like a blanket you wear on your back. Long ago, people wore capes called cloaks to stay warm.

Jesus needed to go to a big city called Jerusalem. Jesus told his friends, "Go get a donkey for me to ride." His friends found a donkey. They put their cloaks on the donkey like a soft pillow. Jesus sat on the donkey and rode to the city.
When Jesus came to the city, lots and lots of people were so happy! They wanted to make a special road for Jesus. Do you know what they did? They took off their cloaks and put them on the ground! They also got tree branches and put them on the road too. It was like making a carpet for someone very special!
The people were so excited! They shouted "Hooray for Jesus!" They shouted "Jesus is wonderful!" They were celebrating because Jesus is their King. Jesus loves them so much!
Jesus wants to be your King too! Jesus loves you so very much. Just like the people put down their cloaks for Jesus, we can give our hearts to Jesus. We can say "Jesus, I love you! Come into my heart!"
Dear Jesus, we love you so much! You are our King! Thank you for loving us. We are so happy you are with us! Amen.
