Peter answered him, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water. "He said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?" Matthew 14:28-31 [NASB]

Here's a spoon. Do you think it will float or sink? Let's try it! Splash! It sinks to the bottom!
Here's some shiny foil. Will it float or sink? Let's see! Wow! It floats on top of the water!
Now I'm making the foil into a ball. Will it still float? Let's try! Yes! It still floats!
Do you know a story about floating? Jesus had friends who were in a boat on the water. The water got bumpy and scary! Then Jesus came walking ON the water! He didn't sink! He walked right on top!
Peter was Jesus' friend. Peter wanted to walk on water too! Jesus said, "Come on!" Peter stepped out of the boat. He walked on the water just like Jesus! But then Peter got scared and started to sink down. "Help me, Jesus!" Peter called. Jesus caught Peter and kept him safe!
When Peter looked at Jesus, he could walk on water! When Peter got scared and looked away, he started to sink. We can look at Jesus too! When we're scared, Jesus helps us!
Dear Jesus, when we're scared, help us remember you're always there to help us. Amen.
