Sermon

Love In Any Language (Preschool Adaptation)

Recommended Age:

Lower Elementary

Theme

It is easy to say, "I love you," but do we show it by our actions?

Object

No object is needed, but you could make a small sign with "I love you" written in the various languages that you plan to use in the sermon.  There is a link to a list below sermon.

Scripture

The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep. John 21:17 (NIV)

Do you know how to say "I love you"? Let's learn some new ways!

In German, we say "Ich liebe dich!" Can you try? "Ich liebe dich!"

In Spanish, we say "Te amo!" That's fun! Say it with me: "Te amo!"

We can also use our hands! Look! (Hold up the "I love you!" sign.) You try it too!

It's easy to say "I love you." But Jesus wants us to SHOW love too!

After Jesus came back to life, he talked to his friend Peter by the big water.

Jesus asked Peter, "Do you love me?"

Peter said, "Yes, Jesus! I love you!"

Jesus said, "Then take care of my sheep."

Jesus asked again, "Do you love me?"

Peter said, "Yes! I love you!"

Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep."

Jesus asked one more time, "Do you love me?"

Peter felt sad. He said, "Jesus, you know I love you!"

Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep."

Jesus asked three times because he wanted Peter to know something important. When we love Jesus, we show it by being kind to others!

Do you love Jesus? Then be kind! Share your toys! Give hugs! Help mommy and daddy!

That's how we show Jesus we love him - by loving others!

Dear Jesus, help us show our love by being kind to everyone. Amen.

Remember: "I love you" in sign language - try it with your hands!
