Scripture
About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, "Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters--one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." (He did not know what he was saying.) Luke 9:28-33 (NIV)
Activities + Resources
Do you know what makes me really, really happy? When someone I love has a birthday! *clap hands* That makes me so happy I want to jump up and down!
Sometimes we have such happy days that we want them to last forever and ever. But you know what? Happy days are not for stopping - they're for starting something new and wonderful!
Jesus had friends named Peter, James, and John. One day, Jesus took his three friends up on a big, big mountain. They went up, up, up to pray to God.
Then something amazing happened! Jesus started to shine like the sun! His clothes got bright, bright, bright - brighter than lightning! *make sparkly fingers* Two special helpers from heaven came to talk with Jesus. Their names were Moses and Elijah.
Peter got so excited! He said, "Jesus, this is so wonderful! Let's stay here forever and ever!" But Jesus knew they couldn't stay on the mountain. They had important work to do!
This happy day on the mountain was just the beginning! It was the start of God's biggest gift ever - Jesus came to save us! Jesus loves us so, so much.
God gives us lots of happy days. The happiest day is when we learn about Jesus and ask Him into our hearts! That's not the end - it's just the beginning of being God's special child forever!
Dear God, thank you for happy days! Thank you most of all for Jesus who loves us so much. Help us remember that every day with You is special. Amen.
