Scripture
He told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches." He told them still another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough." Matthew 13:31-33 (NIV)

Look what I have! These are tiny mustard seeds. They are so small! Can you see them? They are the tiniest seeds ever! And here is yeast. It comes in a small packet too. Both are very, very small!
Jesus told us about these small things. He said the kingdom of heaven is like a tiny mustard seed. A man planted the tiny seed in the ground. The seed was so small, but guess what? It grew and grew and grew! It became a big, big tree! Birds came to sit in the tree. The tiny seed became something big and wonderful!
You are small too, just like the mustard seed. But you are very important to God! God loves you so much. Even though you are little, you can help God. You can be kind. You can share. You can love others. Small is special to God!
Do you know what yeast does? When mommy or daddy makes bread, they put tiny yeast in the dough. The yeast makes the bread grow big and fluffy! Just a little bit of yeast makes the whole bread better. Jesus said the kingdom of heaven is like yeast too. It starts small but makes everything better!
Jesus wants you to be like yeast. You can make things better around you! When you are kind, you make your family happy. When you share your toys, you make your friends smile. When you help, you make everything better!
Jesus started with just twelve friends. That's not very many! But now people all over the world love Jesus. It started small but grew big, just like the mustard seed and the yeast!
You are small, but you are so important! God can use you to do big things. You can help God's love grow everywhere you go!
Dear God, thank you that we don't have to be big to be important. Help us remember that you love us just the way we are. Help us share your love with everyone. Amen.
