Scripture

The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, "He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One." The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar and said, "If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself." There was a written notice above him, which read:THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. Luke 23:35-38 (NIV)

Today I'm going to tell you about a special King! His name is Jesus. When I point to you, say "That's different!" Ready?

Jesus was born as a baby. Most kings are born in big fancy houses, but baby Jesus was born in a barn with cows and sheep! (Point to kids) Moo! Baa! That's different!

When Jesus grew up, He was still different. Most kings have lots of money and toys, but Jesus didn't have any money at all! (Point to kids) That's different!

Most kings sit on big chairs and tell people what to do. But Jesus helped people! He washed their feet and gave them hugs! (Point to kids) That's different!

When Jesus went places, He didn't ride a big horse like other kings. He rode a little donkey! Clip clop, clip clop! (Point to kids) That's different!

Jesus' best friends were fishermen who smelled like fish! He also ate dinner with people who made bad choices. (Point to kids) That's different!

Some people didn't like that Jesus was different. They were mean to Him and put Him on a cross. That made Jesus very sad. (Point to kids) That's different!

But wait! Jesus didn't stay dead! After three days, Jesus came back to life! He's alive forever and ever! Now Jesus is the best King ever!

Jesus loves you so much! He wants to be your King too. If you love Jesus, you can live with Him forever!

Let's pray: Dear Jesus, we love You! You are our King! Amen.
